What I like about Winter

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

The short answer would be “nothing”. But I’ve been trying to come up with reasons of why I could possibly like winter, and let’s face it, the list is very sparse. So far I have:

1. Oranges, tangerines, and all delicious citrus fruit are in season
2. Persimmons – I love them.
3. Hot yoga is actually enjoyable. Sauna is good too.
4. My cacti start to flower.
5. Skating outside.

The list of negative points is a lot longer… trying to stay positive here as I write this cuddled in a heated blanket, having hot tea, with a stuffy nose and a cough! Winter – I dislike you! The funny thing is, I loved winter as a kid. We spent hours playing outside, building snow forts, tobogganing, skating, and going to ice castles at a good -20C. While in Mexico, I’ve heard people say that cold is good for the blood, and it makes you feel alive.. Really? I think reading in the sun, listening to crickets, and swimming in the ocean is good for my blood, at least I don’t get colds.

Boycotting winter!

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

“No, no… no, noooo” That was pretty much all I could manage to say, when I saw the frosted grass outside the window. Winter, how could you sneak up on me like that? Summer, what happened, I thought we were friends? I didn’t even get to fully enjoy you and you left! I still want to wear my pretty skirts and sandals, but noooo, now it’s all long johns and billion layers. So that is it, leaves are almost all gone, frost is on the grass, first flurries have been flying. It’s time to hibernate. I despise winter, and no amount of holiday music or warm, cozy coffee/food/decor commercials will keep me satisfied. Well, maybe hot yoga will… Hmmph. Winter I boycott you! I don’t know how yet, but I am!

Winter-land!

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

On a very chilly day in January we set out to take some ‘winter wonderland’ photos, and it was just beautiful. Minus the minor mishaps with escaped balloons (who knew those can fly away…) the day went amazingly well. Letty is just a gorgeous lady, so natural and adorable. The stunning winter light decided to work in our favour, and made everything even more magical that it already was. Thanks Letty for braving the cold and looking fabulous while doing so!

Hart House Photoshoot

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Gloves, scarf, hat – check! Winter coat + boots – check! Camera, lens – check! Oh yeah, battery, memory card … and that’s it! Out of the door, and I even have subway tokens, perfect! On the way I got a large cup of tea and a scone and arrived at the location, fashionably… early! Why am I always the first to arrive somewhere? It’s becoming a commonly uncool occurrence. Even when I try to be purposefully late, waiting so that time will be cut a bit shorter, I’m still the first one there! Wouldn’t have it any other way though! This, actually, has nothing to do with today’s post, because today’s photos are fabulous, people are gorgeous, and I wasn’t the first to arrive there!

On one of the last warm-ish Saturdays of this year I had the pleasure to participate in yet another event hosted by the 500px team. Lots of friendly faces, tables of equipment, and great time! Thanks to everyone who got in front of my lens, you guys were amazing! Enjoy the photos!

Random Wednesday – Montreal

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009
  • This week’s props go out to buses with free Wi-Fi on long journeys and Mac’s 8hr battery. Woot! It made the trip so much better! Even getting stuck behind snowplows, driving way under the speed limit on a snowy highway, and being late by an hour for arrival, didn’t make me too grumpy!
  • Montreal, that’s where I’m at right now! It’s gorgeous, and looks just like a city should during Holidays: snowy, sparkly, with coffee shops radiating warmth. I think I’m love with spiral staircases, old churches, carved store signs, and charming little boutiques and art galleries! Everyone speaking French makes it just that much better!

Today I [heart] – Ice Queen

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I blame it on the weather! It makes me appreciate all things warm, cuddly, and for some reason white. All of these pretty finds are definitely not Canada proof, but I so wish that they were. I think that blanket, hot tea, and watching cold sunrise from a frosted window would be perfect.
