Random Wednesday – Boxes

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Tea, check. Computer, check. Music, check. Orange cape, check. Wait, scratch the last one. I don’t wear a cape while making blog posts! Just cause it makes me feel like a ‘lean, mean, blogging machine’ it doesn’t mean I have one. It’s not fleecy, warm, and superhero-y… I swear! Well now that we got our awkward moment out of the way, lets start Random Wednesday.

  • I can’t think with music on! I can do pretty much anything while music is playing, just not think, write, read, or run. Well the running things is due to me not being aware of surroundings, so it doesn’t really count. But the other three vitally important functions are definitely not friends with music. I can be reading the same page for an hour if music is playing, my mind will just wonder off. Wait.. that means I can think … hmm, just contradicted myself, maybe I should turn off the music! Let’s rephrase, I can’t do any productive thinking. In times of need my working environment goes silent, rain against the window helps the process! Cause who would ever have a desire to go outside in the rain and take some photos… Wait.. I would.. Hmmm.
  • On the prestigious number two this week is my desire to get a haircut! When my hair is starting to go flat on one side, and back is growing into a mullet wanna be, it’s time to chop it off. Hair, I have no sympathy for you! So the problem is that my hairstylist lady is ‘sick and it’s not known when she’s coming back”.  I hope she didn’t quit. That place have a reputation for hairstylists quitting on them. My last one walked out an hour before my appointment… I’ll be trying again tomorrow.
  • I looked around the room, and there it was, or better yet.. there THEY were. Boxes upon boxes.. of … boxes. How did I ever end up owning so many pretty boxes is beyond me. I keep telling myself that one day I’ll use them for something, still waiting for that day. Here is my tiny unconscious collection, and that’s not including all the tea tins!

Random Wednesday – Orange Fruit

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009
  • Daylight savings time is awesome and very deceiving. My goal for the longest time has been to ‘wake up early’ and get more things done. The ‘wake up early part’ isn’t really working out. And ‘getting more things done’ ends up always being the same amount. There is just no way to cheat the system.  I naively thought that with the time change, as I do every year, that I’d just get up an hour early. Yes, this plan might actually work! But it didn’t. My body just got tired an hour later, and I woke up same time as I always do… Boo to that!
  • Do persimmons fit into a random Wednesday category? Even if they don’t, they do now! It’s finally a persimmon (try saying that word 5 times over!) season, and I just love them. Sweet, juicy, orange ones that make a huge mess, every time I try to scale one. But this one was different. We’ve met at a grocery store, and he said “pick me, I’m on sale” so into the basket he went. I waited for him, touched him everyday to see if he is ripe, and the day came when he looked soft and delicious. Hmmm, this is turning into a Harlequin novel… Anyways, so I cut this ‘heart shaped’ persimmon up, and tried it, only to have my whole mouth and throat close up on me!  It was so horribly astringent that it took me a good hour to get over it! Oh, those conniving persimmons! I’m through with you and your ‘heart shaped’ buddies that are still in a bag.
  • This week is short on random things. Nothing really happened, other than Halloween. Which I successfully ignored by not dressing up and watching Vampire’s Assistant. It was a nice, peaceful, bloodless affair.

Random Wednesday – Dance

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
  • So I’ve met the perfect guy yesterday. It’s not often that you meet one of those, and I’m not talking ‘perfect’ for everyone, just me, perfect for me. The whole day went so smoothly, from conversations, to food, to laughing at silly jokes and being clumsy. He was perfectly charming in a geeky sort of way, just the way I like them. I was so impressed! I think he found the “How to make Katie fall in love with you-101” book, and was sticking to the rules. And then… I woke up.  Yes, disappointment, how I love thee! My brain was having perfect conversations with itself, no wonder the guy was amazing! Way to go brain!!! Gah, what a rip off!
  • The band is The Herbaliser, the song is “You’re not all that”. It made me dance around the room in my socks, Tom Cruise – Risky Business style..  Ok, not really, but I just love catchy songs that make me ‘shake it’ all by my lonesome, ‘cause that’s what the cool kids do, or so I’ve been told. Mind you the windows are usually open, so if you’d like to see poorly coordinated dance routines, feel free to stare! My neighbors must love me! Listen to it and tell me you weren’t dancing (or bopping your head at least)! The Herbaliser – You’re Not All That starts at around 9:25 in. Midnight Poutine podcasts are completely awesome by the way, and make my photo editing days go by so much faster!
  • Remote controls for lights are cool! with dimmers!..and rechargeable batteries.. and free wireless internet.. and.. and can you tell I’m running out of things to write about? Actually no, I’m not, sorry! But remote controls for lights are great! They are way better than those ‘clap twice things’ or ‘get up and walk to the other side of the room, stick your hand behind the door, turn the switch on, while avoiding bumping your head on a shelf’. Not that I’ve ever done that!
  • I’m on a mini adventure tomorrow to document fall 2009 (doesn’t it sound like I’m going on yet another fashion show? (I actually did, and it was fabulous!). The autumn landscapes are just gorgeous, and light drizzle makes it even better. Camera in hand, rubber boots, umbrella, and extra pair of hands to hold it all, are on my ‘need to pack for tomorrow’ list. Maybe my super creative brain will dream up a way to get more hand ‘real-estate’ for tomorrow. …Brain, what a rip off! : )

Red leaf, you are pretty, even if you are a cliche, lying there on that green grass…

Random Wednesday – Beets

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
  • Is there a gene for jumping? I should technically know, but if there is one, I definitely inherited mine from an elephant and it’s showing itself in all it’s dominant glory! Left, right, left, jump, spike – is not an easy combination to master. I ether get confused in steps and forget to spike the ball (we’re talking volleyball here), or do hit the ball (poorly) and forget to jump all together! Now I remember why I quit playing when I did – jumping part was way too intimidating… Oh well, one day! I try!
  • I saw Sunny Fong and he is as adorable in real life as on TV. Last year, I’ve been glued to TV watching the only reality tv show that I do watch, Project Runway – Canada edition. After each episode I went around saying “Sunnyyyyyyyy”!!! Yes, I know, it’s very immature and I never get that excited about celebrities, half-celebrities, or anyone really, but this guy was amazing. I love his designs, his personally, and he is so adorable! Sunny opened this year’s LG Fashion Week with his VAWK spring/summer 2010 collection at AGO, and I was there! Never mind waiting in the line for two hours in the cold, the collection was wonderful.
  • As per usual, I clicked ‘import’ and ‘back up to hard drive’ only to get the red light, saying “Insufficient space” What? Already? I filled up yet another HD with humangously large RAW photo files. The new 1TB drive was purchased, just to find out that provided FireWire is not the one that my Mac likes! Tsk tsk, why do they have to make everything so complicated! Not cool.
  • Oh yeah, and cookies make me happy! Danish butter cookies, double mmmm! And beets, especially in salads! Random I know, but that’s what Wednesdays are for!

Random Wednesday – Thursday Edition

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Long weekend shifted all my plans this week so Wednesday is happening on Thursday.  My blog, my rules! Yes, I waited forever to say that!

  • This week kudos go out to sunshine and autumn colours. Very pretty, cold but pretty. Good for photo shoots too, not so great for my mobility due to protective layers of warm sweaters and jackets.
  • Volleyball. It was on my ‘to do’ list, and it’s happening now for the next 32 weeks! My arms are bruised, muscles that I didn’t know I have hurt, and I really can’t jump for a spike! I’m loving every minute of it!
  • Dirty glasses are on the negative list today. They’ve been getting minus points ever since I needed them! Why they never stay clean I have no idea. Maybe it has something to do with glass’s best friends – dirt, finger prints, and water droplets. All the microfiber cloths in the world are not enough to keep them clean!
  • I love unexpected purchases, especially when they are of gorgeous earrings! How fabulous are these!?!?

Random Wednesday – Purple Glam!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

What’s better than writing all the random thoughts in my head in one nicely organized list?  ’Cause we all know how much I love lists. I could make a blog post about every single one of these thoughts, but who really wants to read a page on Toronto’s crazy wind, or me changing a battery in my toothbrush. [Doesn’t matter that it took some serious tools and almost an hour, but alas my toothbrush is buzzing with electrical life once again, and my teeth are sparkly clean. Dentists recommend that I hear!] Before I get whisked away into another rambling land of disconnected thoughts, I better get on with my ‘thought list.’  That’s exactly what Random Wednesday posts will be, random! I might even write all the ideas on pieces of paper throw them into a huge (read TINY) bucket and pull them out, see where it takes me, I’m betting no place sane.

  • What’s with the crazy wind today, Toronto? I told you, wind will make it into this post, and you’d have to read a page about it. But seriously! Wind, you make the grapevines in the backyard dance one crazy disjointed routine! I’m so not coming out of the house today, unless it’s a visit to Costco!
  • Purple furry coat from D&G September ’09 collection. Need I say more? High fashion and all, but I think I’ll pass on that thing, even if they’d pay me to wear it. Wookiee much?  And it’s not only D&G that came out with purple fuzzy stuff. Mac’s Viva Glam VI campaign put Fergie into a purple feather outfit. Chewbacca and Big bird here I come!
  • I love it when the fridge is stocked with fresh produce. I got radishes, Brussel sprouts, green beans, sweet potatoes, red/yellow peppers, tomatoes aaaaaand I can go on forever.  Fresh produce makes me happy, and I’m definitely cooking something new today!
  • New projects get props this week, cause that’s when they are happening. Nothing is more exciting than ideas coming to life. I can watch them dance around the room, scratch my hand a few times, and be completely uncooperative, but hopefully it’ll work out in the end. More on projects later in the week; they deserve a post of their own.

That’s it for a Random Wednesday. Until next time internet!
