Random Wednesday – Food Obsessed

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

“Hummm” says the lid of my favourite, newly discovered hummus! It’s so good, I eat it with a spoon. I’m usually not the snacking-type, but when I know that this hummus is in the fridge, it calls to me. I get the container out with spoon in hand and a silly grin. Indulgence at it’s best!

On the drive to Tobermory last weekend, I kept seeing signs for a Sweet Shop. Every 20km they popped out, saying, “Fudge? we have it”, “Peanut brittle!”, “Losing weight? We can help against that!” The marketing was so brilliant that upon arrival I almost sprinted to the store. Mmmm Butter Pecan fudge!

Random Wednesday – Updates

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

This time around the post is ON Wednesday! I feel like days are blending into one long continuous mess. Can’t keep up with my regular schedule due to the spontaneous ‘virtual tours,’ which are fun to do, but extremely boring to post. Who wants to see interior photos of the houses? Yaaay! Some blogging reorganization is definitely in order. For now, I’ll just post sporadically. I have so many photos to share, and no, not of the houses. Will catch time by it’s tail, and make things happen.

This week had significant tech updates, well significant for me anyway. New Macs came out and the new Creative Suite CS5. Apple lowered the price on the new 17inch Mac book pro. “Grrr” I say “Grrrr”! Faster processor, better graphics card, and a longer battery. Will I update? Nope. My sexy silver beast of a machine works really well, and I’m not going to trade it in for a slightly improved version! Now, Photoshop CS5 on the other hand… I drool over that thing. Stayed up till 3am just to see all the new features. So many new possibilities! So many things were long overdue and now they are finally here! Still have to wait for almost two month for it to be here, but I’ll make sure to do happy “get here sooner” dances around my house! I’m getting bouncy just thinking about it. NERD!

Have been eating a lot of Pho lately. Mmmm Pho!

Random Wednesday – Tights & Games

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
  • Olympics are in the country, but Toronto feels completely indifferent to it. Way to keep up your cold, snobby composure TO! We do live up to our stereotypes! What’s up with only showing Canadian teams and athletes on all the channels. It might be just me, but watching three hours of curling is not that exciting!  However, girl snowboarding was awesome yesterday! Figure skating wasn’t that bad either. I have my favourites… Dear, TV channels, please show the SNOW LEOPARD guy and other athletes from warm countries! I’ll be cheering for them, cause it’s kind of hard to make it into winter Olympics when you have never seen snow!  All in all, I’d rather be in Vancouver living the fever of the games and soaking up the international buzz.
  • While frantically cleaning up my room last week I stumbled upon a box of my favourite tights. Yes, tights. I bet no one have ever seen me wearing any, but I have a true obsession with them. Tights, socks, leg warmers – I love them all. They are, however, very unpractical for Canadian weather, it’s either too cold or it’s summer. Plus, me being closer to cold-blooded creatures and maintaining my body temperature of that of a room, doesn’t work well either. After, scanning through the box and admiring all the pretty colours and textures, the conscious decision of not needing any more was made. An hour later I came out of FCUK with yet another pair of knee-high grey, ribbed socks. Hey, they were on sale!

Random Wednesday – Dreams & Workouts

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010
  • After a few failed attempts to acquire a gym membership and getting fed up with ridiculous prices, limitations, and contracts, I settled for p90x! I have only three words to describe this intense workout: pain, Pain, and PAIN. However, it’s a good kind of pain, the kind where you know you had a good workout. But I did get the “I can’t really walk down the stairs” too!  Still working through the list of all the videos. So far my favourite is Ab ripper X, but that’s probably because it’s the only one I can really keep up with and doesn’t make me swear profusely (in my head of course) by the end of it. The last two exercises of the series are kind of tough but I’ll get there. Plyometrics was just ridiculous, got me panting and sweating right after the warm up and I quit 20 minutes before the end. It also made my legs into stiff non-moving devices that were barely able to go up and down the stairs for the following three days. “Chest and Back”, “Shoulders and Arms” are doable, the intensity can be controlled so it works. I thought I’d never say this, but Yoga is next to impossible! Looks easy, yes, but after doing Warriors for the first 50 minutes, my still sore legs could not take it. Fast forwarded the video a bit and the stuff that followed… yeah, it’s not happening any time soon. Not to say that I’m quitting, it’ll just take time, lots and lots of time. Found a whole new level of respect for all the Yoga lovers! It’s hard! I’d rather do three hours of Ab ripper!
  • I have the weirdest dreams. Obviously I can’t remember most of them, but some just stick. This one in particular made absolutely no sense, well it did, but the situation was completely out of ordinary. There was some kind of prelude, but all I can sense now is that the day wasn’t going well. The part that I do remember, started with me dropping off the car for maintenance and to change the brake pads. When it was time to pick it up, I noticed two mechanics smoking in my parked car, so I was all about “How did you get into the car, and why would you smoke inside?”  They do have my keys and it’s nicer to sit when you’re having a cigarette… apparently. They left my car and I went indoors to pay. The brake pads cost a laughable $12.50 and they made me wait for a while to fill out some papers. It was getting late and I was in a hurry to get home. I came out, just to find my car on a flat-bed tow truck leaving the parking lot. So all panicked, I went to my spot and read the sign about ‘emergency road’ no parking from 12am-7am. The time was 12:05am. The mechanics parked my car there… and the car next to mine was still standing because it was in the Park Anytime spot. So after already a bad day, I ended up being stranded on some deserted parking lot, a good walk from home. At which point I woke up in a very crummy mood and tried really hard to fall back asleep so I could fix the dream. Not cool brain, not cool!
  • On the art side of things, I made a few of these prints with different saying, and this is the only one I remembered to take photos of! Now that it finally belongs to my friend, I can show it off.

Random Wednesday – Wants and Needs

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
  • Every so often I get this weird desire to buy more camera gear; some things I need, some not so much. It usually happens when the same lens keeps surfacing on different parts of the interwebs, and it’s always painted in glorious colours, and I can’t help but want it. So I’m putting my girly foot down, and telling this lovely Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 (or f/2D -haven’t decided yet) that I will not sway and get it! NO, LENS, NO! If someone is booking me for a photo shoot in the next 2 weeks, your money is buying me this lens! That’s the only condition under which I’m falling into that consumer trap! Why can’t I be like other ladies and drool over pretty dresses, shoes, jewelry and frequent manicures! Apparently my priorities are shifted towards the geeky gadget side…
  • I’m also starting a six month gym challenge with a friend, mainly since I figured sitting in front of the computer all day is not good for anyone, and I need more structure to my day. I think he is already winning, cause I’m yet to go and get a gym membership! I kind of missed my regular workout schedule in the past year, but so not looking forward to the first week! Oh the muscle pain, here I come! Should I do the whole before and after shots? It’ll be bony vs. bony, but could be fun.
  • Here is some colour to keep you winter blues free. It might look warm, but it was well below zero at -15C.

Random Wednesday – Montreal

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009
  • This week’s props go out to buses with free Wi-Fi on long journeys and Mac’s 8hr battery. Woot! It made the trip so much better! Even getting stuck behind snowplows, driving way under the speed limit on a snowy highway, and being late by an hour for arrival, didn’t make me too grumpy!
  • Montreal, that’s where I’m at right now! It’s gorgeous, and looks just like a city should during Holidays: snowy, sparkly, with coffee shops radiating warmth. I think I’m love with spiral staircases, old churches, carved store signs, and charming little boutiques and art galleries! Everyone speaking French makes it just that much better!

Random Wednesday – Snow Day

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009
  • Snow days always spell pretty fluffy stuff on the ground, amazing light, and festive mood, you know… just how they show it in the movies. Today, it’s more of the dark gloomy day, with snow blasting against the window, snowplow getting stuck on the next street and beeping for good 5 minutes while trying to reverse, and nice fluffy snow being replaced by miserable drizzle… Eh, winter is finally in Toronto…
  • Have I told you that I’m deeply, madly in love with books? Well, I am. And not any kind of books, but geeky – nerdy ones that make me proud for wearing glasses and making comments like “did you know that isoamyl alcohol is a depressant of a central nervous system?” while stirring my drink with a dainty straw. Don’t get me wrong, I love literature and novels, but those are more of the ‘light reading, makes you feel good, time for bed’ kind of books. So I ordered my geeky tomes from amazon, and they are here! Yaaay! Now I can bore everyone with info on toxic food additives and eating cardboard for breakfast.
  • Digging in dirt is therapeutic! Well, only when it’s one bag of potting soil, few plants that need a new ‘home’, and nice warm kitchen!  I thoroughly enjoyed it until I knocked down a glass of water on the floor and made a dirt+water goodness of a mess. Clean up wasn’t much fun… But plants look good! Can we say ‘uneventful week’?

Random Wednesday – Kingston

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Oh, how I love the Thursday’s Wednesday editions! Makes me feel like I have extra days in the week… I have no idea why I would want additional work days, but time is never on my side, so I guess few extra won’t hurt. I’d like them to be sunny with white sand, ocean, and Coronas! I swear they will be productive!

  • Has anyone seen Ninja Assassin yet? It’s so horribly BAD, that it’s good! More blood than Kill Bill and by the end everyone was laughing from all the nonsense, or that they payed $13 to watch it. Next on the list are: Pirate Radio, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. No more bad movies for now.
  • The past week was aaah-may-zing! I got to travel! I think ‘two maximum security prisons’ and ‘middle of nowhere’ were the key words that sold me on going to Kingston (Ontario, that is)! I knew absolutely nothing about the city and it didn’t disappoint. Pretty limestone buildings, cute stores, historic streets, ‘Harry Potter-ish’ looking Queen’s University, what more can you ask for? Oh yeah, beautiful waterfront, windmills, forts, and the most delicious Apple Cider with blueberry scones!

Random Wednesday – Foggy Phones

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Last week was a tad slow on ‘exciting’ activities that are worth writing about, but it was full of family and friend get togethers. Always good! Here are a few blurbs for a random factor.

  • As the garage door opened I was submerged… it was so thick and milky. Pure fascination! Fog! It’s not often we get fog in this city, but when we do, it’s definitely the best kind. I was driving at night on a highway in a constant cloud. Dangerous awesomeness! I left the camera behind, but quickly felt sorry that I did. All week I was hoping for a repeat, and it didn’t disappoint. Fog came back last night with double the strength, visibility 50m max. Grabbed my camera and went out. Scenery not as exciting as it was last week, but the fog made for some good photos.
  • Did I mention my dislike for cellphone companies? Wow, I can never win with them. Not only do they mess up my bill every month, but they give me trouble for fixing it too. Somehow even if you do get what you want from them, you still lose. How about: I don’t want your 4 features for $10, I need only one of those, and I don’t want you charging me $7 for it. They were trying to talk me into additional features (of which I would only really use two) for double the price of my existing phone plan. Are you kidding me??? And they really dislike the NO answer. I even got: “no disrespect, but you’re not a valued customer yet”, and “I hope the offer will still be there next time you call for it”. To which my answer was that I’m not calling back. Jeez…

Random Wednesday – The Biggest Fan

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Talking about a random week! As much as I enjoy having everything go according to the plan, I think I like randomness better. I can just get up and go without over thinking, making lists, and working out schedules.

  • Random thing #1 was me going to Chase Jarvis’ talk. Oh, the power of Twitter! [ If you’re not following me yet, where have you been??? ] One moment I didn’t have any plans, and the next I was on the subway going downtown. Am I weird for not being on the whole ‘celebrity-crazed train’? I do respect their work and all the effort, but I’m not the one for being all “Oh.Em.G. IT’S _____. *screams* I LOVE YOU SOOOO MUCH, I’M YOUR BIGGEST FAN. *hyperventilates* ” Chase was friendly, down to earth, and pretty awesome. For a guy with so much amazing work, and such a high ranking in the photography world, it was surprising. Kudos to him for playing it cool! I even got his book signed! Figured people would get upset if I was actually there and didn’t get an autograph.
  • I also went to my first musical ever!!! Jersey Boys was amazing! I think I found my new favourite extra curricular activity; first it was indie concerts, now it’s musicals. Am I aging myself or what???  They put a lot of work into production, music, lights, stage, acting, and I even knew all the songs. I did refrain from singing along, cause no one wants their musical to be ruined by me singing off tune, in all my tone deafness glory!  Yes, I’m that cool!
  • In other smaller random news, I’m still haircut-less and still trying to get one. Even had an offer to exchange cuts… Had an amazing photo shoot on Monday, photos will come soon. Got another huge bruise on my wrist playing volleyball, still can’t jump and spike! Had very gross crepes this week with a side of bacon. Never doing that again! I think I’ll just make my own crepes, that way I know they’ll be good. And the quote that describes this week is “ Being punctual just means that no one will be there to see you arrive!”

Seeeee I did get the book signed!
