Albums

Monday, March 14th, 2011

In a digital versus print battle of photos, print will always win. Call me old school, but no digital photo on your computer will ever compare to a leather bound album with your names embossed on the cover. It’s the “your photos look nice” versus “wow, this is amazing!” reaction from those who see them. A wedding album is something that you keep forever, cherish, and show to your grandchildren. Digital photos… get lost on hard drives. And if you think that one day you will sort through your digital files and print the ones you really like, chances are, you won’t ever get to them.

Last week I picked up Lorrie and Andrew’s album from the printers and it is just gorgeous: soft crimson leather, heavy silk paper, and large photos! The album is 12in x 16in and demands attention. It’s so large, I could hardly fit it into a 50mm frame.

March Randomness

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Did a whole month seriously skip out on me? Again? I need a calendar or something (please do not get me calendars!) I think it has been confirmed that I’m unable to multitask, so when things pile up like fresh snow on my driveway, blog is left behind. It’s time for a random update.

Insanity
Let’s get the complaining out of the way first, and start with the Insanity 60 day workout. Umm yeah, it has been a whole month of jumping around in front of the TV Shaun T style (I wonder what T stands for… ‘to the google!” – and wiki tells me it’s Thompson).  My neighbours must love watching me cause I sure look ridiculous and exercise at oddest times including one in the morning. Here is how the whole month went down: first 10 days – can’t walk down the stairs due to calf muscles not cooperating, next two weeks – leaving a puddle of sweat on the floor and trying to catch my breath! It got a lot better in the last two days, but the whole program switched up on me this week and kicked into high ‘max’ gear. Terrifying! Loving the results but I’m physically exhausted.  The days are being crossed off my imaginary calendar but April 6th does not look any closer than it did a month ago! I don’t even know what can possibly motivate me to keep this up, other than pure stubbornness.

Carwashes
My idea of a car wash was always a driveway, bucket of water, sponge and some good ol’ elbow grease. How come no one told me about automatic car washes? It’s a whole goodness of yellow and purple soap, spongy things flopping around, and water spraying, fans blowing. Oh, so fascinating!  I can go through a car wash every day and still be amazed. Now, they need to add more colour soaps so it will turn out better on photos! It’s all abstract art, you know…

Albums and Prints
Not many things feel better in photography than seeing your work printed! You can make an amazing photo but if not printed it will be lost in a billion folders among different hard drives, on a random shelf in a closet, till dust will cover it all. I swear that’s not where most of my photos end up. The albums are in printing, so are the photos, and I’m very excited about it. So excited I can twirl around the room… in my chair.. till I get dizzy. This year will be all about printing, and I can hardly wait.

I refuse for this post to be picture-less! Here are some birds, even if they have nothing to do with anything.

Today I [heart] – Newspaper Print

Monday, January 4th, 2010

To start off the year fresh, I thought that recycled newspaper projects seem like a good idea. You know, make something new out of old? I adore the prints being made on the newspaper backgrounds. Very original and are always fun! Found a myriad of other interesting pieces that are sure to be conversation starters. Apparently designers still use newspaper print as inspiration and you can have that tote bag for $400. Go figure!
