Random Wednesday – Plants

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
  • They are everywhere: floors, tables, window sills, kitchen counters, shelves. They breath quietly day in and day out producing some good quality oxygen. If only someone would remember to water them regularly and not try so desperately to kill them off. I rely on one of the ferns to let me know when the rest of the plants are thirsty as well. It slightly wilts and hangs it’s fronds in the “I’m so sad, please water me” fashion. This scenario usually works really well, unless other inhabitants of this house decide that watering random plants at random times is a good idea. Some end up overwatered, others don’t get a drop in weeks. Not the optimal living conditions, yet they thrive.
  • Making new prints is always exciting. Lately, I have a weird desire to make them larger and replace the old ones that have been around for way too long. The little voice in my head says: “it’s time to redecorate” and that’s exactly what I’ll be doing. I even have the new frames and pretty photos all ready to go.

Today I [heart] – Fresh Green

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I must admit I have a mini obsession with plants. I just love them; their pretty, delicate leaves, fresh colour, and general cheerful look about them. When everything is snowy and white – more like grey and salty – I can’t help but to [heart] them even more. One can never have enough plants, not even when they take over the whole house, and overflow onto the balcony in the summer. When I grow up, I’m having a green house attached to the shoe box I’ll be living in! Hey, at least I’ll always have enough oxygen!

Random Wednesday – Snow Day

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009
  • Snow days always spell pretty fluffy stuff on the ground, amazing light, and festive mood, you know… just how they show it in the movies. Today, it’s more of the dark gloomy day, with snow blasting against the window, snowplow getting stuck on the next street and beeping for good 5 minutes while trying to reverse, and nice fluffy snow being replaced by miserable drizzle… Eh, winter is finally in Toronto…
  • Have I told you that I’m deeply, madly in love with books? Well, I am. And not any kind of books, but geeky – nerdy ones that make me proud for wearing glasses and making comments like “did you know that isoamyl alcohol is a depressant of a central nervous system?” while stirring my drink with a dainty straw. Don’t get me wrong, I love literature and novels, but those are more of the ‘light reading, makes you feel good, time for bed’ kind of books. So I ordered my geeky tomes from amazon, and they are here! Yaaay! Now I can bore everyone with info on toxic food additives and eating cardboard for breakfast.
  • Digging in dirt is therapeutic! Well, only when it’s one bag of potting soil, few plants that need a new ‘home’, and nice warm kitchen!  I thoroughly enjoyed it until I knocked down a glass of water on the floor and made a dirt+water goodness of a mess. Clean up wasn’t much fun… But plants look good! Can we say ‘uneventful week’?
