Random Wednesday – Foggy Phones

Last week was a tad slow on ‘exciting’ activities that are worth writing about, but it was full of family and friend get togethers. Always good! Here are a few blurbs for a random factor.

As the garage door opened I was submerged… it was so thick and milky. Pure fascination! Fog! It’s not often we get fog in this city, but when we do, it’s definitely the best kind. I was driving at night on a highway in a constant cloud. Dangerous awesomeness! I left the camera behind, but quickly felt sorry that I did. All week I was hoping for a repeat, and it didn’t disappoint. Fog came back last night with double the strength, visibility 50m max. Grabbed my camera and went out. Scenery not as exciting as it was last week, but the fog made for some good photos.

Did I mention my dislike for cellphone companies? Wow, I can never win with them. Not only do they mess up my bill every month, but they give me trouble for fixing it too. Somehow even if you do get what you want from them, you still lose. How about: I don’t want your 4 features for $10, I need only one of those, and I don’t want you charging me $7 for it. They were trying to talk me into additional features (of which I would only really use two) for double the price of my existing phone plan. Are you kidding me??? And they really dislike the NO answer. I even got: “no disrespect, but you’re not a valued customer yet”, and “I hope the offer will still be there next time you call for it”. To which my answer was that I’m not calling back. Jeez…

Random Wednesday – The Biggest Fan

Talking about a random week! As much as I enjoy having everything go according to the plan, I think I like randomness better. I can just get up and go without over thinking, making lists, and working out schedules.

Random thing #1 was me going to Chase Jarvis’ talk. Oh, the power of Twitter! [ If you’re not following me yet, where have you been??? ] One moment I didn’t have any plans, and the next I was on the subway going downtown. Am I weird for not being on the whole ‘celebrity-crazed train’? I do respect their work and all the effort, but I’m not the one for being all “Oh.Em.G. IT’S _____. *screams* I LOVE YOU SOOOO MUCH, I’M YOUR BIGGEST FAN. *hyperventilates* ” Chase was friendly, down to earth, and pretty awesome. For a guy with so much amazing work, and such a high ranking in the photography world, it was surprising. Kudos to him for playing it cool! I even got his book signed! Figured people would get upset if I was actually there and didn’t get an autograph.

I also went to my first musical ever!!! Jersey Boys was amazing! I think I found my new favourite extra curricular activity; first it was indie concerts, now it’s musicals. Am I aging myself or what??? They put a lot of work into production, music, lights, stage, acting, and I even knew all the songs. I did refrain from singing along, cause no one wants their musical to be ruined by me singing off tune, in all my tone deafness glory! Yes, I’m that cool!

In other smaller random news, I’m still haircut-less and still trying to get one. Even had an offer to exchange cuts… Had an amazing photo shoot on Monday, photos will come soon. Got another huge bruise on my wrist playing volleyball, still can’t jump and spike! Had very gross crepes this week with a side of bacon. Never doing that again! I think I’ll just make my own crepes, that way I know they’ll be good. And the quote that describes this week is “ Being punctual just means that no one will be there to see you arrive!”

Random Wednesday – Dance

So I’ve met the perfect guy yesterday. It’s not often that you meet one of those, and I’m not talking ‘perfect’ for everyone, just me, perfect for me. The whole day went so smoothly, from conversations, to food, to laughing at silly jokes and being clumsy. He was perfectly charming in a geeky sort of way, just the way I like them. I was so impressed! I think he found the “How to make Katie fall in love with you-101” book, and was sticking to the rules. And then… I woke up. Yes, disappointment, how I love thee! My brain was having perfect conversations with itself, no wonder the guy was amazing! Way to go brain!!! Gah, what a rip off!

The band is The Herbaliser, the song is “You’re not all that”. It made me dance around the room in my socks, Tom Cruise – Risky Business style.. Ok, not really, but I just love catchy songs that make me ‘shake it’ all by my lonesome, ‘cause that’s what the cool kids do, or so I’ve been told. Mind you the windows are usually open, so if you’d like to see poorly coordinated dance routines, feel free to stare! My neighbors must love me! Listen to it and tell me you weren’t dancing (or bopping your head at least)! The Herbaliser – You’re Not All That starts at around 9:25 in. Midnight Poutine podcasts are completely awesome by the way, and make my photo editing days go by so much faster!

Remote controls for lights are cool! with dimmers!..and rechargeable batteries.. and free wireless internet.. and.. and can you tell I’m running out of things to write about? Actually no, I’m not, sorry! But remote controls for lights are great! They are way better than those ‘clap twice things’ or ‘get up and walk to the other side of the room, stick your hand behind the door, turn the switch on, while avoiding bumping your head on a shelf’. Not that I’ve ever done that!

I’m on a mini adventure tomorrow to document fall 2009 (doesn’t it sound like I’m going on yet another fashion show? (I actually did, and it was fabulous!). The autumn landscapes are just gorgeous, and light drizzle makes it even better. Camera in hand, rubber boots, umbrella, and extra pair of hands to hold it all, are on my ‘need to pack for tomorrow’ list. Maybe my super creative brain will dream up a way to get more hand ‘real-estate’ for tomorrow. …Brain, what a rip off! : )

Wall Art

Another day, another… rain!?! Come on Toronto, stop raining! First you don’t give us any summer, and now you keep us locked indoors with all this miserable cold rain… But this wet weather does put me into a crafty, artsy mood and I finally got around to framing a few photographs for the walls. I’m more of the ‘bright colour’ wall type of a girl, so photos don’t usually go so well. Plus, who wants to look at their own work all day long. Well, apparently my parents are my biggest fans and now my photos are everywhere. Good thing they are not of me! All the photos are from Trains to Mars…, my ongoing photoblog project that was started in Japan. Having a lot of photos in the archives is good for the walls but bad for trying to make coffee table books in a timely manner, which is my next project. Years of photos, here I come!!! Back to the photos on the walls, they look pretty me thinks! Some could use better frames and new couches, but here is what it looks like for now. Pst, wide angle lens and glare are not the greatest for taking pictures of pictures, sorry. Oh, and I also bought these cute frame stickers that are now above my bed. Yes, I have pale green walls and I love it!
