Wedding Magazines

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

I must confess that I’m very guilty of overlooking Canadian Wedding Magazines, and going straight for the SoCal ones at the book stores. For many years US wedding magazines were the trend setters in business, and it seemed as Canadians were always playing catch up. Nowadays, wedding blogs have a lot more relevant articles and sometimes even deliver the news before it  hits the ‘review rooms’ of publication houses, and therefore, levelling the playing field.  I was very pleasantly surprised when I flipped through four, yes, FOUR (it was a long tea break), of the latest Canadian wedding magazines. They have outdone themselves with creative suggestions, articles, and vendor lists that are current and most of all relevant to Canadian brides.

Here is the list of Canadian magazines that I flip through on regular basis.

Boots

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

There it was, so subtle but true, the smell of autumn. It happens every summer, that one day when it’s still nice and warm, but you know that it’s soon to be over. It doesn’t feel like it should be over yet, but it is, and the wind tells you so. Everything is set in motion shortly after, including the arrival of a new fall wardrobe and boots. Ahhh I love boots. Soft leather, knee high, able to walk, go perfectly with skinny jeans, these are only a few of the requirements. They also have to look good, and these look amazing! Please welcome the newest addition to my shoe collection! Yes, they did have a photoshoot of their own.

Today I [heart] – Mint Green

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Mint green is one of those colours that could go horribly wrong very quick, the key is not to over do it. It’s ‘dirtier’ than teal with a tinge of yellow in it, and that could make it feel old and have a 70′s flavour. It’s best used as an accent colour with creams, taupes, or even blacks, in the form of accessories or a single piece of clothing. This colour will be in some way incorporated into my wardrobe, a necklace or a ring perhaps.  Yay, or nay?

The Skinny Jeans

Friday, December 17th, 2010

I am never one for the latest fashion craze and when skinny jeans came around, the ‘IGNORE’ signal went off in my brain, and that was it. Although few pairs were tried on, I felt they made my bum look larger than was necessary and they didn’t look great with any of my shoes either. Then riding boots came into play! How can anyone dislike the boots? A pair of riding boots makes me giggle with excitement, so after finding a perfect red pair they were mine! I had a dilemma, wear the boots with tights, or not wear them at all. I rocked them with skirts for as long as the weather would allow, but skinny jeans had to be purchased.

There I was last night, hopping on one leg, making awkward circles around the room trying to pull my socks up. After a few failed attempts, off came the jeans and on came the socks. Classy as always, but lesson learned. Taking those jeans off is no easy task either, you have to tug, pull, and wiggle out of them instead of the casual ‘drop to the floor’ deal.  What did I get myself into (other than skinny jeans, of course)? Damn those pretty red boots!

Apparently they are ‘Limited Edition” and will be my “new favourite jeans”. We’ll see about that. Also, they have this tiny zipped pocket, which just screams: “Things will never be found here ever again”

Red Shoes

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Once upon a time I had a pair of my favourite Nine West red shoes. They were my ‘go to’ shoes, most comfortable and cool looking. I was so happy that I didn’t settle for black ones ‘that would go with everything,’ my red ones went with EVERYTHING instead. I wore them so much that on one warm sunny day they ripped right down the side of all the places. I tried keeping them for longer, but that didn’t go over to well, so I had to let them go.

Photo circa 2003 and Kodak 2.2mp WOOT! Don’t be hating!

On my trip to London, after already getting a pair of pretty blue shoes, I saw them. They were sitting on a shelf hypnotizing me with their gorgeous red colour. But that was all, I left them there… cause my blue ones were already in the bag, and they were also very nice. Little did I know, that under careful instructions from mommy, my dad would go on a scavenger hunt all over London (half a year later) to find that red pair of shoes for me. Seeing my dad with a huge smile over Skype saying that he GOT them, and telling a story how he went to several places asking for Street Chic Clark’s shoes and they didn’t have them, then going to a warehouse where they found a pair for me, just melted my heart. I didn’t even know that my parents were up to something! That was so incredibly sweet! Thank you so much for my new favourite pair of red shoes! I’ll wear them well, and hopefully won’t tear them down the side this time.

p.s. They are so COMFORTABLE. <3

Today I [heart] – Early Autumn

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these, forgot how much I enjoy making them. It’s like shopping with an unlimited budget! Minus the part where you don’t actually buy anything… I definitely don’t need any more clothes, especially after two hour closet clean up today. Pheeew! …maybe shoes, one can never have enough shoes. Today I looked for something that will go well with changing leaf colour, cold mornings, and gloomy skies. Somehow animal theme sneaked in again. Had to restrain myself from adding a whole bunch of unrelated animals into one outfit. Zoo obsessions, much? Dress it up with high heels, or go casual with riding boots and charcoal coloured tights. I tried almost identical pair of boots in Town Shoes this past weekend. They are at $250. Also, Calvin Klein has similar enamel rings starting from $120, on sale -60%.

Today I [heart] – If I were a boy

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

…I’d be a very cool stylish one! Well, hopefully I’d have some sort of a fashion sense, and my mother wouldn’t dress me till I’m 30. Maybe my girlfriend would, but still…  I’d have a collection of pretty sneakers, nice jackets, nerdy t-shirts, and very cool accessories. I’d give out “Stop Talking” cards to all the annoying ladies while wearing my handsome shades… Wait, I already sound like a jerk. Hmmm need to rethink my boy strategy! I love guys fashion, pretty boys wearing amazing clothes make my heart melt!

Today I [heart] – The Farm

Monday, January 25th, 2010

I have a mini fascination with farms and life on a country side. I’d like to imagine that it’s a very relaxed, slow pace lifestyle without cell phones, internet, traffic, and general craziness of the city. Although, I’d be unable to survive on a farm without the internet… So, I’m imagining my farm with the internet! While I’m getting more into whole foods, organics, and watching all the chemicals consumed with food, farms come up more often. I’m turning into a modern day ‘hippie wanna-be’ and supporting local farmers and their hard work to produce good food! I think there are significant changes on the horizon from mass produced, tasteless, chemical filled greens and meats to healthier, better quietly ones. Come on Canada, you can do it! The inspiration for this post came from books on food, documentaries, and a new season of Project Runway : ). Potato sack cocktail dress anyone?

Today I [heart] – Back to Black

Monday, January 18th, 2010

After a little flirt with bright, glittery colours, and soft, girly things I’m back to black, back to what I know and love. Strong, classy, and slightly gadgety is what I’m in the mood for. Manly watches, Mac keys for rings, black nail polish, hot shoes, even hotter dresses, it’s all business from now on.
