Wall Art

Another day, another… rain!?! Come on Toronto, stop raining! First you don’t give us any summer, and now you keep us locked indoors with all this miserable cold rain…  But this wet weather does put me into a crafty, artsy mood and I finally got around to framing a few photographs for the walls. I’m more of the ‘bright colour’ wall type of a girl, so photos don’t usually go so well. Plus, who wants to look at their own work all day long. Well, apparently my parents are my biggest fans and now my photos are everywhere. Good thing they are not of me! All the photos are from Trains to Mars…, my ongoing photoblog project that was started in Japan. Having a lot of photos in the archives is good for the walls but bad for trying to make coffee table books in a timely manner, which is my next project. Years of photos, here I come!!!  Back to the photos on the walls, they look pretty me thinks! Some could use better frames and new couches, but here is what it looks like for now. Pst, wide angle lens and glare are not the greatest for taking pictures of pictures, sorry. Oh, and I also bought these cute frame stickers that are now above my bed. Yes, I have pale green walls and I love it!

Today I [heart] – Tea Culture

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Spoon and a half of tea leaves + boiling water that’s how every morning starts. The first cup is usually consumed way too fast for that jolt of caffeine. In 15 minutes I’m on the second cup, and this one I drink slow to enjoy the flavour. Strong black tea, no milk, no sugar, that’s how I like it. Story goes that at the age of two, my grandparents introduced me to tea and I stopped drinking milk forever! By now, my blood is probably 50% tea and the addiction runs deep. The tea is consumed daily and in large quantities. Black, green, blended tea – I drink it all; well minus those fruity kinds cause that’s just not tea. It’s like taking an orange/blueberry/etc and pouring hot water on it… not cool! So today I [heart] tea, and the tea culture, tea shops, teapots, cups, boxes, art, anything that has to do with tea. I even have a real working Samovar! In winter, Starbucks had promo posters that said “Home without tea is merely a house!” I wanted it so badly, but the employees didn’t give it up : (.  I [heart] you, tea. It’s definitely time for another cup!

Reclining in a beach chair with tea in a porcelain cup, my phone and a stack of magazines next to me – that’s how I spent my gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Page after page of fabulous outfits, expensive jewelery, and even skinnier and younger looking models. Evil, evil fashion industry always makes me want to go shopping, hunt for gems, and feed starving models. Cauliflower and caper gratin anyone? Looking through magazines can be hazardous to one’s well being. This time, I ended up with a mini crush on Tiffany’s keys. Gorgeous lil things! So today I [heart] keys and cages. Since keys have to open something, cages seemed very appropriate. Them being pretty doesn’t hurt either.

Don’t you just love when everything is bright and sunny outside, and how it instantaneously lifts your mood, especially on Mondays? Today is definitely sunny and it reminded me of all the pretty yellow things I keep coming across. Yellow is not my favourite colour, but it has been popping up here and there all season long, and it slowly grew on me. Nice, rich, almost mustard yellow – that’s what I’m talking about. Yellow sweater, yellow purse, yellow tights all made it into my collection this summer, and I’m loving it. Today I positively [heart] yellow!

“hydrangea”, “Alberta spruce”, “hosta” “Oh come on! It’s a friggin dandelion”. My friends get a kick out of pointing at random plants, trees, weeds and asking me what they are called just to see if I’ll name it. Yeap, as geeky as it may be, I’m a plant lady! I like anything green and flowering. Not to say that I’m a great gardener considering I don’t even have a backyard. And even if I did have one, I think I’d kill everything cause gardening requires effort; effort that I lack. I’m more of an “admire from the sidelines” gardener and “read too many books” gardener. Long story short, I love flowering dogwood trees. I like the way flower buds appear all bunched up before there is even a sight of leaves on the tree; and when they do open, it’s always fresh, vibrant, large blooms. While designing my logo, I wanted something Japanese and nature inspired. That’s how my dogwood kamon originated, and made it’s way into print, web, and even hanko. Today I [heart] anything dogwood.

Nothing says feminine and elegant like ruffles. They have been around forever and I simply love them. I also love Etsy and it’s designers. There are so many hidden gems that I can spend hours going through pages of beautifully handcrafted pieces of art.
