Salva + Vimal : Engagement

Friday, January 20th, 2012

“A chance of rain” that’s what the forecast said a day prior to the photoshoot. Fine, I’ll take my chances…but did it ever rain! They wanted a winter wonderland with fluffy snow, we got +8 and rain. Vimal and Salva, the awesome couple that they are, came with a great attitude, gorgeous outfits, and geared up with an umbrella! What more can I ask for?!? LOVE THEM! These two are up for anything, and are hilarious together. They met in university and were friends for a while. But by the time Vimal gathered some courage to ask Salva on a date, she already knew all about his plans. She cut his wordy proposition short and said yes to a date. Everything else followed. They are getting married in July and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding. It will be fabulous!

Jena+Ashkan : Engagement – Part II

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

“How do you feel about zombies?” I started to recall all the zombie movies I’ve seen, and games played, before answering “more than favourable!?!” I do like my zombies, but not the ones that run super fast. My cardio is kind of weak so there is no way I can outrun them in a zombie apocalypse. That being said, Ashkan and Jena love zombies! On the drive to Elora for the engagement pictures, there was a heated discussion about the plot of the story. At one point, Jena was to be turned into a zombie and possibly eat Ashkan’s brains. But like in all good love stories, we decided to leave both Jena and Ashkan human, and let the zombies party on their own. Can’t wait till their Mexico wedding next month! Who knows, there might be even more zombies.

Jena + Ashkan : Engagement – Part1

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Oh, I’m so very excited about this one! Not only because we captured some fun photos, but also because my friend is getting married and I get to capture it all. Here is the story of how I met Ashkan. It was the first day of grade 10 in the new school. The first class was history. I was sitting at the front desk, middle row, he was right behind me. Like any first day of school, we got to play the ‘Find someone who…” game. Naturally, I turned around. I think my name went into the box “Find someone who doesn’t know who Martha Stewart is.” Don’t ask… Over the following years we shared a number of classes together, mainly English related. We did ridiculous group projects that involved Ash being dressed as a woman with stuffed animals for … ahem bosoms. [I still have the tapes, blackmail?]; built crazy mountains; drew ridiculous pie charts (twice) in each others yearbooks, and had all sorts of fun. Then, as it usually happens after highschool, we all moved to different places and lost touch for a bit.

While I was gallivanting here and there, Ashkan moved to Vancouver where he met, oh so gorgeous, Jena. What can I say, these two are just perfect together! Without being overly cheese-ball-ish, I’ll just say that you can feel the love when you’re around them! Here is the first part of their engagement photos, to be followed with more after.

Jena and Ashkan wanted to incorporate their son’s favourite toy into the photos. Too adorable!

Daniela + Nic: Engagement

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

On a warm Saturday afternoon I met up with Daniela and Nic at the waterfront for their engagement photos. The weather was glorious, bright and sunny, which made me cringe cause I knew we’d have to play vampires so no one would sparkle in the sunlight. I swear I didn’t watch the Twilight movies… or read the books…  We started on the roof top patio, where immaculately dressed Daniela and Nic eased into being photographed. These two pay attention to every single detail from shoes to accessories, everything has to go well together. And we all know how much I love details and well dressed couples! Nic didn’t have a single wrinkle on his shirt. Now, that’s a man who knows how to use an iron! Daniela… well, she looked just perfect!

Daniela is a teacher, so we thought it was well suited.

Nina + Kirill: Wedding

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

The morning of the wedding I left the house earlier than scheduled. Fully expecting to be looking at someone’s bumper for an hour and a half, but surprisingly there was no traffic. Friday morning had a good start. Nina’s house was filled with a quiet chatter over tea, her puppy curiously checking up on the newcomers, flowers arriving. It was almost surreal, all calm as if in slow motion, just like a wedding day should be. Everything was on schedule. Nina joked that not only did the groom showed up, but he was an hour early, an admirable quality in a man. The two were still wearing casual clothes and lounging around almost till departure, but in a span of five minutes they were transformed into the bride and groom, looking ever so gorgeous and dapper! The rest of the day went just as it started, calm and filled with affection. Nina and Kirill, you two are like butter together! Yes, butter! That’s the best word I’m able to come up with to describe how well you vibe together. So smooth! I’m also convinced that you have powers over traffic gods, and ‘everything will go well‘ deities. Thank you for letting me capture your day! Thanks for being such a good sport, walking in the sand, rolling on the grass, and swimming in fountains. You two rock (just like butter)!

Kirill is fighting his last battle before the ceremony.

Nina+Kirill: Engagement

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

The morning of the engagement shoot I packed the car in my usual overachieving manner, with way more gear than I would ever use. “What if I’ll need a three light set up with a soft box and an umbrella” As if! But it’s always better to be over prepared than under, especially considering that I was driving to an unknown location. I love when my clients pick cool locations, and this one was definitely amazing. Nina and Kirill worked it to the fullest, well, more like, they were being themselves and I pressed the shutter button. These two are hilarious together: goofing around, climbing things, reading poetry out loud, and making each other laugh non-stop. Their good mood is seriously contagious! We ran around taking photos, only to notice the time when light started to fade quickly. Thanks to the two of you for being so awesome! Their wedding photos are coming up next week, so stay tuned. If you have missed the video, it’s here.

They had a lil’ boxing match, I think Kirill won!

Fatima + Erjon: Engagement Reception

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Fatima and Erjon are not your ordinary couple. They come from different countries, met in an unconventional way, had to endure long distances in the middle of their relationship, and now they are traveling to Switzerland to further their education…and that’s only the beginning!

Fatima took the whole morning to get ready.  Hair, make-up, clothes, jewellery, shoes [Hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl gotta do!]- and when she came downstairs she was breathtaking, but nervous. Erjon took her hand into his and all the tension melted from her face. Just like that, hand-in-hand, they walked into the reception hall filled with family and friends. The families gathered from all over the world to celebrate the engagement in a historic King Edward Hotel in Toronto. Dinner was served, music played, speeches were made, all while Erjon and Fatima were sitting very close to each other and basking in all the love flowing their way. It was a beautiful night! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your celebration. The wedding will take place sometime next year, in a country yet to be determined, in line with their unconventional ways!

Thank to Diana Tula for second shooting the event.

Nina+Kirill: Video

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Friday morning started with a Goal: Make a one minute video and submit it by midnight. Problem: Oh crap, I have to make a video! My face.. talking.. on camera? and a Solution: … [insert cricket sounds here] Apart from this, the best part the day was I got to photograph a lifestyle session for Nina and Kirill.

Being an ‘overachiever’ and all, when words MAKE and VIDEO are in one sentence, panic mode kicks in and I try to think of the most elaborate and artsy way to film that thing. After procrastinating until the last day and trying to quit in ‘fabulous’ ways (oh, my DSLR doesn’t do video), I ran out of excuses and just had to make one… of myself.. talking…*sigh* Alas, it was done and I didn’t die of embarrassment, although it still might happen in the near future. The good thing that did come out of the whole experience, is that shooting short videos suddenly grew on me. So while on location with gorgeous Nina and her very handsome husband, Kirill, we made this tiny film. Their engagement and wedding photos are soon to follow, but for now please enjoy these fun 20 seconds.

This video was done with an iPhone 4 and processed with iMovie.

Alexander + Irina

Monday, July 4th, 2011

I looked outside the window… downpour. Eeeeh. It was raining the day before as well, and the weather wasn’t cooperating once again. Tim Gunn sounded in my head: “Make it work,” and with that I headed downtown to meet with Alexander and Irina for their engagement photoshoot. Did I mention how much I love urban engagements, oh, but I do! Irina looked drop dead gorgeous in her red summer dress and Alexander was ever so dapper! We wandered the streets of the financial district, dodging the rain from time to time, and walking in traffic. Irina and Alexander are just adorable together! She gives him the “honey, I can’t possibly go through this puddle in my shoes” look, and he lifts her up and carries her effortlessly across. Ahh, pure love. They danced in the rain, rode the elephants, shared smooches in front of the fountain, and sat on the beach… hand in hand, riding the same wavelength. Alex and Irina, thank you so much for spending an evening with me. Congratulations on your marriage!  Enjoy your honeymoon!

Aaahh, the shoes! Michael Kors!

Sweet Thing

Monday, April 25th, 2011

A few weeks ago we pulled our creative strings and gathered for Butter Avenue’s ‘Spring Engagement’ themed photoshoot. We wanted it to be soft and elegant but with a bit of a twist, and the library was a perfect location. My fascination with libraries, their character and grand architecture runs deep. I’d love to have an engagement party among old books, study desks, and leather couches – a perfect dose of elegance and nerdiness. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped organize this shoot, and especially to our gorgeous models! A special thanks to Eri Inamasu for make up and hair, and Secret Jewel for providing all the pretty ‘bling’. Can’t express how excited I am about the soon to be opened Butter Avenue pâtisserie & café. It will be a fabulous space for all these delicious macaron’s and pastries, and I can’t wait to have a cup of tea with my favourite Earl Grey macaron there.
